HOW 2002 EVENT BABIES WERE CHOSEN

When you first went into the first event you drew a number out of a bowl. This number 1-10 was the group you went in to look at the event babies and to visit with Xavier. We were #9. They put out a group of 25 babies at a time for each group. By the time we got there I think most were left overs that they just kept adding to!! Each group had a group of 25 to choose from. The first time through I didn't see any at all that I liked--mainly because I don't like the lashes. Also not a lot of hairstyles, etc. Then After everyone had a turn, anyone wanting to look again stood in line and went in nearly all at once it seemed! What a mad house. I grabbed a cute one sitting on the floor--think they were all out on display then? Not sure. The one I had in my hands, someone said "how did you get her, that's the one I wanted?!" Well, by now I was not too happy. This is my second time through and my first baby!"

Then later on in the tent they rolled in two big cloth hamper looking things full of the event kids--22" boys and girls, by the way. So anyone wanted to look again was able to select yet another one. Well, that's when I did see one with the French curls in the newer sand color without lashes. So that's when I got number two. :) Love my first one though. Looks like Laurie did as a kid every summer--very brown (caramel skin tone) green eyes and champayne side pony hairdo. In overalls and a darling sweater and little saddle shoes. I'll send you a picture of both of them. Out of 175 kids--all but 24 were adopted that day!!! Was a real money maker for OAA for a change. The sidekick was a little squirt again, I got a boy and a girl. Mine were super cute. I thought most of them were real cute.

SPRING EVENT 2002 per Sue

Event was great! Food was yummy and lots of it. Xavier was as cheerful and friendly as ever. Still takes an amazing picture! Just LOVE that guy!

The 15th year Event baby/babies were the BEST ever! Each one was different. Dressed to perfection and a tiny "15" painted in each left eye as high light. Think nearly every one found at least one they loved.

Loved the auction - final event. Each of us was given $l00 Xavier dollars to spend. I got a great box for $95, you know how easily me and my money are parted! It had a pair of shoes, sprout outfit, preemie gown, and cow costume hat. Pretty active bidding toward the end. As much fun watching as being a part of the action!

Out of the 175 event kids all but 24 were adopted at the event! At $321 with tax that's a lot of dollars but worth every penny. They were so sweet! Hair do's and colors from the past 15 years brought back one more time for this anniversary.

The Babyland Kid was a newborn again. New hair do's on them too. Cute stick up braids or curly puff pony tails on the girls. Boys were available bald or with a flat top style. Not sure about other styles or the names of the styles. I got two. My boy is blond yarn flat top with brown eyes and a darling caramel girl with brown curly puffs. They came with a matching stuffed toy to match their outfits.

All in all it was a wonderful event as usual. My only complaint would be location. This tent thing is really not my idea of fun. It is humid and buggie in May. Lots of pollen in the air, ants on the table and ground. I had bug bites on my neck, face and feet after two days outside in a tent.

Of course rain and more rain the entire two day event so getting to and from parking lot to tent was no easy task. Harder for collectors with disabilities or advancing years and aches and pains. Would really of enjoyed eating our steak dinner on a level surface with real knives and forks in an air conditioned building.

Tim and Davina Presley had a wonderful get together for collectors at the White County Community Center. Where they made a formal announcement of their own edition in December 2002. Poor Davina was suffering with morning sickness pretty much all day long. I'm thinking they will make loving parents for a lucky little baby. Wish them all the best and hope all goes well.

He had some great older babies on consignment for new homes again this year at Dolls By Jill. Shop also had a beautiful throw with Cleveland land marks in nice colors. Beanie Babies and Middleton babies too. Were just a few of the collectibles available.

All in all a great time was had in Georgia. Got to meet a few Soft Face Place collectors I have talked to on line- still not sure of all the names, on line names and faces but a fun group! Always nice to see old friends again and get to play dolls.

The life long 15 year collectors who have been to every convention/event were honored with at certificate naming them as honorary doctors of Babyland General Hospital. All official with Xaviers signature! Really nice recognition for their years of patronage. All still active, avid collectors of these wonderful babies from the patch!

Hope this event never ends. Guess none of us really wants to be a grown up. Love the fantasy. We need this more than ever in this scary old world of ours.

Keep Patchin!!!!
